Portugal

Portugal is easily one of my favorite destinations. There is something about it that just feels so effortlessly cool, yet rich in old-world charm. It’s a seamless combination of history, landscapes, culture, and delicious cuisine.

Language

The official language in Portugal is Portuguese. Most locals are fluent in English as it is a standard course offered in schools.

Currency

The currency used is the Euro (EUR). Most restaurants, shops and cafes accept credit card and apple pay, however having some cash is a good idea. When using a credit card, selecting EUR as the currency ensures the best exchange rate.

Weather

Portugal offers a mild Mediterranean climate, ideal for visits in Spring (April to June) or Fall (September to October), when the weather is pleasant and crowds are lighter. Summer brings heat, crowds, and higher prices, while the off-season (November to March) offers fewer tourists and lower rates, but some attractions may have reduced hours so best to check before.
Portugal offers charming Christmas markets, especially in major cities like Lisbon and Porto.

Portugal Travel Guide

After two visits to Portugal, I can safely say it’s one of my favorite destinations! It offers a rich history, stunning landscapes, beautiful cities and a vibrant culture. Whether you’re strolling through the charming streets of Lisbon and Porto, admiring the stunning coastline or exploring quaint villages, it truly offers something for everyone!

The booming food and wine scene is definitely a highlight too! Portugal’s affordability compared to other European destinations, along with its safety, make it such an appealing spot for solo travelers and families with children.
